Established in 2018, APO's Children's Outreach Tour has traveled to elementary schools in rural areas to share high-quality music education in areas where children’s music programs have been reduced or eliminated. This year, APO offered a live, virtual tour for educators to use in the classroom so that APO can continue to connect with schools in spite of COVID-19 restrictions. Ten broadcasts were presented over the course of one week and will be offered at no cost to the schools.
APO broadcasted their performance of the classic "Henny Penny,” written by Broadway star and playwright, Claybourne Elder. This children’s show featured songs from the Great American Songbook that were performed by Broadway actors and professional musicians. Each performance included a live Q & A with actors and musicians, allowing for the students to interact in real-time with the artists and musicians. Upon request, APO provided schools with materials and technology for teachers so their students can further interact with the show (as supply allows).
These free interactive children’s programs were offered to all private and public schools within Virginia, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, and Washington, DC. This opportunity gives students the chance to experience and learn about professional performances, as well as interact with and learn directly from the musicians and artists.
